The winner told National Lottery Ithuba that he had big plans but will be taking a measured approach to managing his fortune.

Well if they do, and you played those numbers in Tuesday’s Powerball draw you would be R77 million richer, because one lucky person went to bed on Tuesday night with a fat bank balance after bagging Tuesday night’s Powerball jackpot.

To be precise, this lucky someone won R77,428,794.30 from the November 26, draw.

Oh, and don’t worry about scrambling and checking your tickets to see if your Festive season is going to be more jolly. The lucky winner apparently already has the money in his bank account.

Yes, a South African man has wasted no time in claiming his multimillion rand Powerball jackpot prize. And he didn’t even have to check his numbers. The married man, whose wife must be beaming from ear to ear, said he got the call from the bank the morning after the draw.

“They (the bank) notified me of my big win. Both my wife and I couldn’t believe it at first. I went straight to the Ithuba offices to verify the news,” the thrilled winner said.

“I am so happy and relieved about this win-it’s going to change my life forever,” he added.

The winner told National Lottery Ithuba that he had big plans but will be taking a measured approach to managing his fortune.

“I am finally going to start the business I have dreamt about for so long but didn’t have the financial muscle to get going,” he said, adding, “I’ll also pay off our home loan and invest in the future of our children.”

Then said, “I want to take my time thinking about this. I plan to have several sessions with a financial advisor so I can make informed decisions about how to spend and invest this money wisely.”

Ithuba said the man purchased his ticket using a banking app. He spent R90 and selected his numbers manually – not going the seemingly more convenient QuickPick route.

Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza said: “This incredible win highlights the ease and security of playing the National Lottery through banking apps.

“We are thrilled for the winner and remain committed to delivering a world-class lottery experience through continuous innovation and accessibility.”

Ithuba reminded players that winnings are paid out within 72 hours of a valid claim and that all winnings are tax-free.

Meanwhile, a few other lucky winners will also be celebrating – provided they take the time to check their tickets.

A total of three people won in the second division, of five correct numbers and will each walk away with R157,178.80. Also A total of 144,423 people had the Powerball number and will each win a whopping R10.

The tantalizing news is that there were no winners in the Powerball Plus jackpot and the jackpot will roll over to an estimated R12 million in the November 29, draw. So if you are feeling lucky, you know what to do.

One person did win in the Powerball Plus’ second division, getting five correct numbers and will walk away with R194,717.60.

Ithuba said it was still searching for the R19 million Lotto jackpot winner from a previous draw. The draw from the November 20, paid out R19,081,940.

The ticket was purchased at a Spar in Rustenburg in the North West province.

Ithuba said as of October 30, more than R257 million in prizes remain unclaimed across various games.

Among the significant unclaimed prizes is a PowerBall plus jackpot of over R3.4 million, purchased in Louis Trichardt in Limpopo on January 19, 2024, set to expire on January 19, 2025.
