The Bachelor’s Foundation is collecting school shoes until the end of January to donate to pupils at Tetlanyo Secondary School on Valentine’s Day, with plans to expand the initiative to include school uniforms.
WITH schools reopening for the new academic year on January 15, the Bachelor’s Foundation will continue collecting school shoes until the end of the month, with the donations set to be handed over to pupils at Tetlanyo Secondary School in Kimberley on Valentine’s Day.
Organiser Ntesang Rankoe said the founder of the Bachelor’s Foundation, Samora Jakwe, walked 70 kilometres through the night on December 31 – from Schmidtsdrift to Kimberley – in support of the cause.
“Other participants also joined the walk from the Tswelelopele Correctional Centre to the Galeshewe circle on New Year’s Day,” she added.
Rankoe stated that the foundation wants to expand the campaign to include school uniforms for those in need.
“This is the seventh year we have been embarking on this initiative,” she said.
“The public and business community are invited to contribute and any shoe sizes will be appreciated. We will continue to collect shoes until the end of the month and hand them over on February 14. If we have enough donations, we will hand over shoes to three local schools.”
Rankoe explained that a group of teachers had established the foundation to improve the lives of pupils.
“Members of the public are encouraged to join the Bachelor’s Foundation so that we can make a bigger impact,” she added.
