CAPE TOWN – Three animal rescuers from the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha was hijacked while on duty in the area.

According to a statement on the clinic’s Facebook page, this hijacking follows a recent armed robbery incident.

“Quinton, Maria and Mzo were hijacked at gunpoint this morning. Mzo refused to give them the keys and fought them off, but Quinton got hurt in the process. All three are very shaken. They will be taking the day off to recover. The economic state is scary and it’s getting dangerous to even send out our animal ambulance. With joblessness now bring over 30% the criminals are increasing. We can only pray that the good people and animals of Khayelitsha stay safe.”
