NORTHERN CAPE – Obakeng Mocumi was yesterday sentenced in the Kathu Regional Court to 10 years imprisonment for raping a 51-year-old woman.
He was also given three years for assault to cause great bodily harm, says police spokesperson Brigadier Mohale Rametsaba.
The rape occurred on 05 January 2019 at Deben dumping site.
Rametsaba says the suspect lured the victim to the dumping site under the pretence that there are old clothes to be collected. “He raped the victim at knifepoint. He was arrested and released on bail,” he says.
“While on bail he assaulted a 53-year-old woman at her house. He was rearrested on 12 August 2019 and has been in custody until his sentencing. ”
The Provincial Management in Northern Cape SAPS welcomed the sentence and applauded the investigating officers, Sergeant Maletsatsi Smouse and Constable Pako Bele for a thorough investigation that led to the conviction.
