Boyce Makodi, one of many “disgruntled” residents of Kimberley, delivered a letter to the Municipal Manager at the offices of the Sol Plaatje Municipality today.
“Signed, sealed and delivered into the hands of the Sol Plaatje Municipal Manager,” says Makodi, in a post made on the Sol Plaatje Community Facebook group.
To: The Executive Mayor of Sol Plaaitje — Mr. Patrick Mabilo
Good day Mr. Mayor
This letter is written on behalf of the Sol Plaatje residents regarding the meeting that is taking place this Sundays, 14-03-2021 at 15H00, at the open space where the Mandela “statue” stands in Galeshewe. We believe it shouldn’t be difficult to find this venue.
We will be raising issues that require your immediate attention as well as signing a memorandum of demands and a list of grievances which we want to hand over to you at this very meeting. We come at this meeting as your everyday citizen away from political structures to find a way to fix what is broken in this municipality and city. Frankly we are concerned and appalled about the current state of Sol Plaaitje as a whole.
We are tax and rate paying citizens and do not understand how our city got to the filthy state it is in. A city where services to the residents are no longer prioritized. We need accountability Mr. Mayor and we need it now!
Gone are the days where Sol Plaaitje residents will complain on social media platforms but do not act against the incompetence displayed by your administration.
That being said, we hope you can avail yourself for Sunday (14-03-2021) so that we can find a way to fix this broken city as well as to address the prolonged and ignored matter of our overpriced cost of electricity that is killing us as citizens.
How do we start talking about 4′ industrial revolution if we can’t afford to keep our lights on?
Mr. Mayor this meeting is going forward with or without your presence but we must stress that your absence will indicate to us that you’re reluctant to work with us as the citizens of this city.
Please do bring yourself some tap water to drink as this will be a long day, an ambulance will be on standby incase the water supplied by your administration causes some health problems.
Should you wish to communicate anything prior to this meeting please do contact one of the disgruntled residents Kagiso Makodi on 066 162 2354.
Regards
