FREE STATE – Tebello Mohai (30), a foreign national, pleaded guilty before the Welkom Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was sentenced for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
Capt Christopher Singo, a Hawks spokesperson, says Mohai’s sentencing follows his arrest on Wednesday,10 March 2021 after the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Welkom received information about six suspects who were reported to be in possession of illegal firearms inside their vehicle.
Singo says the vehicle was searched and two illegal firearms and ammunition were found inside the vehicle. The other 5 suspects were released after it was discovered that the firearms belonged to Mohai.
He says the court sentenced Mohai to six years direct imprisonment for illegal possession of firearms and three years direct imprisonment for illegal possession of ammunition.
Mohai will serve an effective nine years of direct imprisonment, Singo concludes.
