Kimberley man sentenced to 7 years after “stealing” business partner’s BMX X6

KIMBERLEY – Floyd Teu, a local city man and director of Baralong Funeral Home, was sentenced to 7 years for fraud after selling his business partners BMW X6 in Tanzania after falsely reporting it stolen in a hijacking.

According to a police spokesperson during October 2013 the accused, Mr Floyd Teu borrowed a white BMW X6 valued at R1.3 million from his business partner, to attend a meeting in Johannesburg.

According to the DFA, Teu and Sakkie Gerber, the former owner of MotoNet a second-hand car dealership, was arrested, after the vehicle was reported stolen in a fraudulent insurance claim. While the vehicle was driven over the Lebombo border post by an accomplice and sold in Tanzania. Gerber was subsequently acquitted of the charges last year.

It was found that the accused made a false case of hijacking at Bramley SAPS. Further investigation revealed that Teu actually sold the vehicle in Tanzania.

The SAPS recovered the vehicle in Dar es Salaam during 2018 and repatriated it from Tanzania back to South Africa.

On 23 March 2021, Mr Teu was sentenced in the Kimberley Regional Court to 7 years for Fraud and 7 years for defeating the ends of justice. The sentences will run concurrently.
