Case postponed for bail hearing after suspects arrested for defrauding Sol Plaatje Municipality out of R1.6m in “ghost workers” scam

KIMBERLEY – The case against the nine accused, Impoletseng Beauty Kilelo (40), Paul Mission Mokoena (50), Oratile Yvonne Schoeman (32), Togara Charles Ndebele (51), Tjetjepa Motaung (46), Jacqueline Tshilo (44), Mandy Kelebogile Ntshoe (36), Labane Ntshoedi (37) and Eveline Makoloi (60) in the R1.6m Sol Plaatje Municipality ghost workers scam, has been postponed until tomorrow for a formal bail application.

A spokesperson for the Hawks Nomthansazo Mnisi says it is alleged that between the years 2011 and 2016, there were ghost workers created into Sol Plaatje Municipality database. Various bank accounts were used to deposit money from the Sol Plaatje Municipality’s bank account amounting to approximately R1.6million.

All accused to remain in custody, Mnisi says.

More arrests are imminent.
