The Hawks have arrested 11 suspects of an alleged drug dealing syndicate in Springbok & Cape Town with an undisclosed amount of cash and Tik worth approximately R3.3 million.
Hawks’ spokeswoman Nomthandazo Mnisi says that a multi-disciplinary team led by Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Springbok K9, Local Criminal Record Centre and Upington Crime Intelligence resulted in an arrest of eleven suspects aged between 29 and 42 for dealing in drugs.
She says the syndicate members were arrested earlier this morning in Western Cape and Northern Cape provinces during a project-driven investigation aimed at addressing drugs and drug trafficking in Namakwa Cluster.
“The team infiltrated the syndicate resulting in approximately thirteen transactions being recorded. An assortment of drugs which include, mandrax and tik valued at over R208 900 was purchased from the syndicate members.”
“Two vehicles, cell phones, a camera, mandrax tablets and tik with an estimated street value of R3.3million, and an undisclosed amount of money were seized this morning during their arrest.”
Mnisi says the suspects are expected to appear before Springbok Magistrate court on Tuesday,30 March 2021.
“The Acting Provincial Head of DPCI Brigadier PW Mashimbye has applauded the team for an outstanding job and their resilience in fighting drug trafficking in Northern Cape.”
“Drugs and trafficking of drugs shall not be given an opportunity to prosper in this province,” Mnisi concludes.
