The massive water leak which was reported by a city resident earlier today on the R31 road on the outskirts of the city was just a test by the Sol Plaatje Municipality.
According to Danie van der Lith of the Diamond Field Advertiser, it was a valve opened up by the municipality which they usually use to reduce pressure in the system. This is to show that water is being pumped from Riverton but is not reaching the Newton Reservoir, he says.
According to reports from the community the valve has since been closed.
