KIMBERLEY – Residents of Cassandra, Ernestville and other surrounding areas experienced a power outage early this morning. Reports from the Kimberley Portal suggested that the cause of the outage was cable theft in the area. The information was received via social media.
Another Kimberley resident reported that around 2:42 the power unexpectedly dipped and the street lights in a non-loadshedding area went off for a few seconds. It is not yet clear if this is related to the alleged power cable theft that caused the power outage.
Residents are advised to exercise caution. It is best to avoid working or operating any electrical appliances until the power is restored. If you experience any further power outages in the area, contact the municipal call centre for assistance.
We hope that the power is restored soon and that the perpetrators of the cable theft are brought to justice. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
Update from the Sol Plaatje Municipality
Thoko Riet, the Sol Plaatje Municipality Spokesperson, has reported that parts of Cassandra and De Beers have been without electricity since the early hours of this morning due to cable theft. The 15m aerial feeder was stolen, and electricians are currently working on-site to replace it and restore power to the affected areas. The Sol Plaatje Municipality is taking this issue very seriously, and their electricians are tirelessly working to restore power as soon as possible.
