Combatting Unemployment in Okhahlamba: How Planting Dagga Is Helping KwaZulu-Natal Youth

Editorial Staff

SOUTH AFRICA – In the small town of Okhahlamba, KwaZulu-Natal, a remarkable thing is happening: the local municipality is helping young people to plant dagga- to combat unemployment in the area.

This is a remarkable move, considering that in 2023 dagga is still being treated as a criminal offence by the South African Police Service (SAPS). Furthermore, Okhahlamba has a history drenched in racist mass murder, making this move all the more impressive.

Myrtle Clarke, from the Dagga Couple, recently visited Okhahlamba to speak to local farmers at the Agriculture and Land Summit. After her visit, she wrote about her experience in a blog, detailing the efforts of the local municipality to combat unemployment by helping young people to plant dagga.

In her blog, Myrtle highlighted the importance of this movement, and the potential it has to change the lives of those living in Okhahlamba. She also called for donations to help the United Nations CND 66 team with their fundraising efforts, to ensure that they can continue their work to support cannabis reform.

This remarkable effort in Okhahlamba shows the potential of cannabis reform to combat unemployment and poverty, and prove that there is hope for a better future. The work of the United Nations CND 66 team is vital in ensuring that reform continues, and that those living in Okhahlamba can continue to benefit from this forward-thinking policy.

If you are able to make a donation to the United Nations CND 66 team, please visit their GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/f/united-nations-cnd-66-team-fundraising.

Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those living in Okhahlamba.
