KIMBERLEY – The recent release of water from the Bloemhof dam has caused the Vaal River to rise considerably. This is having an impact on the Riverton Water purification plant, which is currently pumping away the water that is entering the high lift pump room. Although efforts are being made to stop the water flow, this has caused the Sol Plaatje Municipality to stop taking bookings for the Langleg and Riverton resorts.
The Municipality’s emergency services are working hard to monitor the rise in water and the safety of residents who may need to be moved to alternative accommodations. Thoko Riet, Spokesperson for the Sol Plaatje Municipality, has stated that updates will be provided where necessary.
The Municipality is asking that all residents stay informed of the situation and take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety. Residents are encouraged to sign up for updates from the Sol Plaatje Municipality and follow their advice.
