Space Weather Report: Geomagnetic Storms and Solar Climate Forcing

Editorial Staff

Ben Davidson, a space weatherman at SuspiciousObservers, recently discussed the effect of the sun’s activity on Earth. Sunspots, plasma filaments, and coronal holes are all continuing to be active, and the impacts of this activity have been felt here on Earth. Geomagnetic storms have been ongoing and, potentially, more are coming today.

Two important papers have been released on solar climate forcing and the power of the sun. Scientists have attributed much of the Arctic climate change to ozone loss, but these papers suggest that the sun and Earth’s weakening magnetic field are actually more responsible. Additionally, humans have never seen the full power of the sun – what has been seen over the space age is only about 40% of what was delivered over the Holocene. This means that solar flares can be 100 times more powerful than what we have seen recently.

Davidson reminds us to stay safe and be aware of the potential space weather impacts. He also encourages viewers to support his work, including checking out links, getting tickets for the upcoming tour, and using the promotional code for half off lifetime membership. He will continue to monitor the solar wind and any further activity from the sun.

The sun is a powerful force that can have significant impacts on Earth. This activity is important to understand and monitor, as it can have significant implications in terms of technological, meteorological, biological, and seismological effects.
