The Sun Unleased a World-Ending Titanic Super Flare

Editorial Staff

Ben Davidson, the space weatherman, says it is a miracle that the sun did not end civilization as we know it just 41 hours ago.

On the far side of the sun, a solar flare erupted, clocked at over 3,000 kilometres per second, and with the power of a “super flare”. Had it been aimed at Earth, it would have been “game over”. The effects of this flare would have been devastating: power grids shut down, thousands of transformers destroyed, no Internet, no phone, no refrigeration, no banks, and gas lines at risk of exploding. All of these things are necessary for modern civilization to function, and if these had been taken out, society would have been sent back to the Stone Age.

Thankfully, this solar flare was not aimed at Earth, and we were spared from this fate. However, this is a reminder of just how fragile our society is and how quickly we could be sent back to the Stone Age if something like this had happened. It is a reminder of the fragility of our civilization and the importance of being prepared for any situation.
