1823 Senior Managers in Public Service Allegedly Without Qualifications To Be Investigated

Editorial Staff

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has welcomed the decision by the Public Service Commission (PSC) to verify the data it received from the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) regarding senior managers within the public service with no qualifications. According to the data provided by the DPSA to the PSC, there are currently 1823 senior managers within the public service with no qualifications, of which 1076 are employed in provincial departments and 756 are employed in national departments.

The PSC launched an investigation into this matter late last year following a request by the DA that it conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their employment in the public service. The PSC is now in the process of conducting a random sampling process of national and provincial departments to verify this data and anticipates that this verification process will assist it in the development of remedial actions and interventions to ensure that this does not happen again.

The Hawks recently arrested fraudsters who were trying to gain employment as Constables in the South African Police Service using fraudulent matric certificates.

The DA hopes that the remedial action and interventions that will be developed as a result of this investigation by the PSC will firmly set the tone in ensuring that, going forward, only qualified and capable individuals are at the helm of government departments.
