The Kimberley Prospector, a local community newspaper in Kimberley in the Northern Cape of South Africa, is the latest to have its Twitter account suspended. The suspension was confirmed via Twitter’s e-mail notification, which stated that the account, @KBYzaNet, had violated their rules against platform manipulation and spam.
The Kimberley Prospector maintains that they did not violate any of Twitter’s policies, claiming that they only syndicate news headlines from Google News and other local South African news publications. It is highly unlikely that any of these trusted sources would be responsible for a violation of Twitter’s policy.
The Kimberley Prospector has since lodged an appeal in the hopes that the suspension will be overturned. According to the appeal procedure, this could take up to 14 working days. Unfortunately, no response has been received from either Twitter Support or Elon Musk. It is believed that this could be a system error or false positive on Twitter’s security.
The Kimberley Prospector is hoping that Elon Musk will resolve this quickly to enable them to post the latest news headlines on Twitter again. In the meantime, their news headlines are still available on the website www.kby.za.net or on facebook.com/kby.za.net.
