Police in KwaZulu-Natal have voiced their concern over the various media reports and speculations that have been circulating regarding the murder of Kiernan Forbes, popularly known as AKA and Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane. Unconfirmed reports of an ever-changing number of suspects have been misleading the public and potentially jeopardising the ongoing investigations.
Police have appealed to the media and the public to refrain from making any reports that may have a negative impact on the investigations. Such reports could put at risk the lives of those who have been arrested or those who have been portrayed as police officers in photographs and videos.
Police are calling for space and time to investigate the matter without undue pressure and scrutiny from armchair investigators and faceless sources. They are duty-bound to keep the victims’ families abreast of any developments in the investigations, and any irresponsible reporting may only serve to salt the fresh wounds of these family members.
Though investigations are still ongoing, police have promised to keep the public updated with any breakthroughs or developments. It is important that we respect the process and the authorities working to bring justice to the victims and their families.
