NOTICE: Sol Plaatje Bulk Water Supply Shutdown – Not a joke!

Editorial Staff

KIMBERLEY – Sol Plaatje Municipality has announced that its main water supply pipelines will be undergoing repairs in April 2023. The repairs, which are part of the Integrated Water Supply Intervention Business Plan, will require a shutdown of the bulk water supply. This marks the beginning of a huge improvement in the water quality and water supply assurance to the Municipality for the future.

The shutdown will begin on Friday, 21 April 2023 at 06:00 and end on Sunday, 23 April 2023 at 18:00. This will provide the Municipality with enough time to fully drain the affected pipe sections, undertake the repairs, and restore the water supply to all communities. To facilitate the completion of the repairs, a Smartball exercise will be used to establish leakages in the water pipeline and bulk water meter insertion probes will also be installed on the 600 and 900 mm bulk pipelines.

To ensure that the affected communities have access to water during the shutdown period, roaming water tankers and JOJO Tanks will be placed in various wards. Details about the placement of these tankers will be communicated closer to the time.

The BFI application and funding for the Integrated Water Supply Intervention Business Plan was approved in January 2023 and will actively be implemented in May 2023. The plan will be implemented over a period of seven (7) years and is expected to bring about much-needed upgrades and repairs to the bulk water supply infrastructure.

The Municipality has urged community members to use water sparingly during this time as the repairs are essential to ensure the proper functioning of the bulk water supply.
