Sol Plaatje Municipality Adjusts Water Opening Schedule to Address Morning Pressure Issues

Editorial Staff

KIMBERLEY – The Sol Plaatje Municipality has issued an update on the ongoing nightly water interruptions between 21:00 and 04:00. These interruptions have been necessary to address the low water levels at Newton Reservoir due to infrastructure issues whether caused by lack of maintenance or poor management, that have led to emergency shutdowns and repairs recently and in the past.

The water supply will now be restored an hour earlier at 3:00 every morning.

As a result of the line feeding process, some residents within the Kimberley CBD are experiencing low to no water pressure in the morning hours. However, the pressure typically increases throughout the day. To address this issue, the Municipality has adjusted the water opening schedule for the Kimberley CBD, opening the valves at 3:00 to allow for sufficient pressure buildup and full coverage.

In addition, the Municipality is working diligently to restore water supply to the Lerato Park areas, which have been affected by a burst 500mm diameter pipe. Water tankers will be deployed to provide residents with water while repairs are underway.

Current water levels at the Newton Reservoirs are as follows:

The Municipality urges residents to conserve water by refraining from watering their gardens and using water only for essential purposes. This will ensure that the water pumped into the reservoirs can reach levels sufficient to provide adequate pressure to all areas in the Kimberley CBD.

The community is encouraged to adopt water-saving habits at all times. The Municipality appreciates the patience and understanding of residents during this challenging time.
