Pressure Points: Kimberley Residents Left High and Dry as Pump Oversight Causes Morning Drought

Editorial Staff

KIMBERLEY – In an update on the persistent water supply challenges affecting various suburbs in Kimberley, including Southridge, Monument Heights, Minerva Gardens, and parts of Hadison Park, new revelations shed light on the morning water scarcity following the nightly shutdown.

Leopold Heinrich Pieterse, PR DA-Councilor of Sol Plaatje Municipality, shared insights obtained from Blessing Mukosi, the engineer for Water & Sanitation, regarding the municipality’s practices. According to Mukosi, the Municipality routinely shuts down one of the two pumps supplying water at 09:00 to address low water levels at the catchment dams near the Newton Reservoir.

Regrettably, an oversight occurred when the pump was not reactivated from 15:00 to accommodate the high demand from households during that period. Subsequently, the second pump was opened at 16:45, and pressure for the water supply is expected to increase, particularly in affected high-lying areas such as Belgravia, Royldene, Monument Heights, South Ridge, etc.

Leopold Heinrich Pieterse assured residents that the DA will continue to monitor the water supply and pressure across all areas of Sol Plaatje Municipality. This includes a focused observation of pump operations at the reservoir and purification plant to ensure a consistent and reliable water supply for all residents.

For ongoing updates on the water supply situation, residents are encouraged to stay informed by reading The Kimberley Prospector.
