Confusion Mounts in Kimberley as Municipality’s Water Restoration Claims Questioned

Editorial Staff

The water crisis in Kimberley deepens as conflicting information emerges regarding the restoration of the water supply, raising concerns about the accuracy of the Sol Plaatje Municipality and the ward councillors’ communication.

Recent reports from the situation at Newton Reservoir point to potential misinformation in the municipality’s latest public notice. In contradiction to an earlier notification, which indicated that the water supply would be restored between 16:00 and 19:00. However, for residents relying on the Newton Reservoir this is not the case as reports indicate that both pumps remain inactive.

The Kimberley Prospector sought clarity from the municipality but was met with silence, adding to the confusion surrounding the current state of water affairs. Residents are left in the dark, unsure of the accuracy of the information provided by the municipality and the councillors who copy and paste the statements verbatim to residents.

The prevailing uncertainty has turned the situation into a political information warzone, where residents find themselves caught between conflicting statements and an absence of official communication. As the water crisis continues to unfold, the need for transparent and reliable information becomes increasingly critical for the residents of Kimberley.
