KIMBERLEY – The tranquil streets of Kimberley were shattered by a tragic incident today, as a woman lost her life in a shooting incident, marking a sombre end to the year. The South African Police Service (SAPS) in Kimberley is actively investigating the incident, which unfolded in broad daylight on Main Road.

At approximately 13:30 on 27 December 2023, police responded to distress calls, rushing to the scene where a woman, whose age is yet to be confirmed, was found with gunshot wounds to her head and shoulder. Despite swift medical intervention, the victim succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Miraculously, a teenage girl who was present at the scene emerged unharmed.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the shooting may have been the tragic outcome of a domestic dispute. The suspect, alleged to be involved in the incident, fled the scene in a silver Polo, prompting a city-wide manhunt.

Colonel Cherelle Ehlers of the SAPS Northern Cape Media Centre expressed the urgency of the situation, urging anyone with information to come forward. “We are appealing to the public to assist us in solving this case. If you have any information that could aid our investigation, please contact the police at 08600 10111 or utilize the MySAPS App. All information received will be treated confidentially,” emphasized Colonel Ehlers.

Despite posts circulating on social media suggesting a kidnapping, the police have officially clarified that there are no reports of a kidnapping in connection with this incident.
