Water Supply Woes Persist for Kimberley Suburbs: Residents Urged to Report Ongoing Disruptions

KIMBERLEY – Residents in some areas, including Beaconsfield, Herlear, South Ridge, Klisserville, and more, continue to grapple with water supply challenges as the Sol Plaatje Municipality faces disruptions during restoration periods. The recent public notice on Wednesday, 27 Dec 2023, highlighted the extension of water supply restoration until 22:00, citing issues at the Newton Reservoir.

Thabo Mothibi from the Communications Unit at Sol Plaatje Municipality emphasized that suburbs, especially those with interrupted water supply after the 17:00 restoration, were significantly impacted. The use of only one pump during this interval compounded the problem, leaving affected areas without a sufficient water supply.

To address the issue, the waterworks team activated a second pump at 20:20, aiming to provide an instant restoration of the water supply. Despite the quick resolution, affected suburbs are advised to expect usable water before the nightly shutdown at 22:00, which will last until 05:00 the next day.

Despite the excellent water pressure experienced by the affected suburbs yesterday and up to today’s water interruption at noon, the water has not been restored at 21:00.

Residents in these specific suburban areas who continue to experience water shortages are urged to take action. The Kimberley Prospector encourages affected residents to promptly fill out the form available at kby.za.net/i-have-no-water-form. Additionally, residents are requested to report the ongoing disruptions to their ward councillors and the Sol Plaatje Municipality Call Centre.

As the municipality works to address the persistent challenges at Newton Reservoir, The Kimberley Prospector will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on developments and solutions to ensure that all residents have access to a reliable water supply.
