KIMBERLEY – Jean Pierre Van Niekerk (25), the former Financial Manager of the Northern Cape Cricket Union, made his second appearance before the Kimberley Serious Commercial Crime Court today. Van Niekerk, who was arrested by Hawks Serious Commercial Crime members on Thursday, 21 December 2023, is facing charges of fraud alternative theft.
The allegations against Van Niekerk span from July 2022 to March 2023, during which he purportedly misappropriated funds belonging to the cricket union. It is claimed that payments intended for service providers were diverted to his personal bank account. The financial misconduct resulted in an actual loss exceeding R400000, plus accrued interest.
Van Niekerk, currently out on bail, had his case postponed to Thursday, 1 February 2024. The Hawks spokesperson, Warrant Officer Nomthandazo Mnisi, highlighted the severity of the charges as the investigation unfolds.
