Kimberley Court Clerk Arrested for Allegedly Demanding R500 Bribe, Released on R500 Bail

A 46-year-old Clerk of the Court in Kimberley was arrested on Friday, March 15, 2024, on allegations of corruption. The arrest was made by the Northern Cape Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit (ACIU).

The clerk stands accused of exploiting their position to demand an R500 bribe from an applicant seeking a protection order. It is alleged the clerk assisted with both the application process and the interim protection order issued by the Magistrate.

After being arrested by the ACIU, the accused appeared before the Kimberley Magistrates Court. They were granted bail in the amount of R500.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
