KIMBERLEY – The Sol Plaatje Municipality has announced measures to aid the recovery of the Newton Reservoirs, a critical water source for several areas in Kimberley. To facilitate this, off-takes supplying water to Galeshewe, Roodepan, and Platfontein will be closed from 12:00 to 18:00 today. Residents are urged to store enough water for essential use during this period.
The municipality highlights that the water distribution network experienced strain after the restoration of supply, likely due to the increased demand from household JoJo tank refilling.
While water has been restored to many areas, the municipality acknowledged that some residents remain without water. Technical teams are assessing these areas, and water tankers will continue to serve affected residents. Those in need of a water tanker can contact the municipality’s toll-free Call Center on 0801 229 010.
Further updates and details on the progress of the Newton Reservoir recovery will be released as the situation stabilizes.
