BELGRAVIA – A drunken driver was arrested on Saturday 27 February after a black Fiat Punto collided with a white Toyota Corolla in Aristotle Avenue at the intersection at Queen’s Park in Belgravia, Kimberley.

According to police spokesperson Captain Tessa Jansen, the police were called to the scene of the accident. On arrival at the scene in Aristotle Avenue, they found a black Fiat Punto and a white Toyota Corolla, with damages to the front of both vehicles.

Allegedly the Fiat Punto neglected to stop at a stop street in Park Avenue and when the female driver turned into Aristotle, she collided with the Corolla.

Jansen says it was established that the driver of the Fiat Punto was at a pub and was smelling of alcohol. She was taken for blood tests after she was arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving without a driver’s license and reckless and negligent driving.

Hit and run by intoxicated driver

Jansen says that on the same day at about 19:15 the police was called to a hit and run complaint at the KFC in Phakamile Mabija Street.

On arrival they found a woman lying near a red Volkswagen Polo with a broken windscreen.

According to Jansen a man was holding onto another man and explained that the driver of the Polo bumped the woman and then ran away. Community members chased him and brought him back to the scene.

It was established that man was smelling of liquor and he was taken for a blood test after he was arrested for driving while under the influence of liquor and reckless and negligent driving.

The woman was taken to Lenmed Hospital by medical emergency services for medical attention, Jansen concludes.
