City’s issues captured in creative poem about Kimberley

Michael Hawthorne

Nadia Snyders, a Kimberlite, wrote a creative poem capturing the serious issues affecting the city of Kimberley.

She used to sparkle and shine,
Now she’s nothing but a mine….dump.
Roads all broken and sewage everywhere…stink in the air.
The municipality doesn’t care.
Your flamingoes fled, the pretty pink now a dam of dead.
Kimberley oh Kimberley
My love, my place of birth,
Now everyone gives you a wide girth.
I cry for you, pray for you.
When will it end, when will we care,
May these words touch hearts to share.
For someone to hear our cries,
For someone to see our pain.
So she can again sparkle and shine,
And I will once again, call her mine.

N. Snyders.
