KIMBERLEY – Tumelo Mosikare, community leader and activist, says the Sol Plaatje Municipality lied about the toilet reconstruction project.

The Kimberley Prospector previously reported that the municipality is planning on installing 2 640 toilets to replace the bucket system at a cost of R97 680 000 in various suburbs of Kimberley. The municipality says they will be installing 300 toilets in the first phase.

Mosikare says the toilets cost R37 000 each. He alleges that the municipality lied and says there is no second phase planned. Only the 300 toilets at a cost of R11 100 000 will be constructed, Mosikare concludes.

The Kimberley Prospector contacted the municipality to confirm or deny the allegations made by Mosikare.

Municipal spokesperson Sello Matsie says: “Your urgent media enquiry doesn’t make sense at all. Despite providing millions in figures it lacks serious details. Please go on to the website and all tenders are obligated by law to be published. All details should be there. Thanks”
