Listen in English & Afrikaans: Alarming level of non-compliance by municipalities in the province – DA.
DA MP Fawzia Rhoda says municipal spending reported for April to June 2020 shows an alarming level of non-compliance by NC municipalities to public finance directives.
About 35% of service providers cannot be validated, creating questions about important aspects like tax registration status and directorship details, she says. Furthermore, company detail that can be verified creates more questions, as procurement for PPEs was done from dubious sources.
Rhoda says it is simply unacceptable that municipal spending during public health crises is not monitored in real-time and that oversight bodies cannot have access to credible information.
