#WeatherWarning: Disruptive rain expected over next two days

KIMBERLEY – Residents in areas prone to flooding should take note as heavy rain is expected to hit the city over the next two days.

According to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute more than 43.3 mm of rain is expected to fall by tomorrow.

This is alarming as various parts of the city including Donkerhoek and White City in Roodepan have been struggling with homes and properties being flooded in the last couple of week as a result of the heavy rain.

According to the South African Weather Service, the impact of the disruptive rain could cause localized flooding of areas with poor drainage systems, low-lying areas, roads and informal settlements that can lead to localized damage to property and loss of agricultural production.

The weather service says difficult driving conditions can be expected due to reduced visibility and slippery roads which can contribute to an increased travel time and minor accidents, especially the afternoon rush hour as people will be travelling from work.

The weather service advises residents if possible to stay indoors and off the roads, avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams where water is above their ankles. If trapped in a vehicle during a flood, abandon it and climb to higher ground. In buildings, move valuables to a safe place above the expected flood level.
