KIMBERLEY – There will be no water tonight either as the Sol Plaatje Municipality says the nightly shutdown will be implemented immediately due to critical low dam levels at the Newton Reservoir.
According to community members of Ritchie, they are also experiencing issues with the water supply. The municipality said that their Waterworks Department is “attending to the problem”.
This follows an emergency deviation of R4.8m in last month and a further R500m has been made available to “rescue” the municipality.
Residents have criticized the municipality for the fact that despite months of nightly shutdowns of the water supply from the reservoir dam levels have remained critically low without signs of improvement. Community members say that obviously the reservoir will not gain anything while there are so many leaks in the city wasting water down city streets.
Despite the additional funding towards repairing leaks it does not seem that the money is being put to work to repair the water leaks that plague the city.
