Suspect arrested for defrauding NC Department of Health out of almost R500 000

NORTHERN CAPE – Kwenzani Ndabeni (50) was arrested by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team on Wednesday morning in Bloemfontein for defrauding the Department of Health of approximately R487 500.

Nomthandazo Mnisi, a Hawks’ spokeswoman, says it is alleged that during November 2014, Northern Cape Department of Health awarded contracts for renovations of hospitals in the Region. “Fraud occurred when the suspect and his company presented invoices to the department claiming that they supplied and installed vinyl sheeting at Kuruman Hospital,” she says.

“The Department of Health suffered an actual loss of R487 500. Ndabeni who was charged along with his entity has been released on R5000 bail by the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court, the case has been postponed to 21 May 2021,” Mnisi concludes.
