Oreeditse Kebotlhale, a 51-year-old man from Kimberley in the Northern Cape, is due to appear in Galeshewe Magistrate court on Tuesday, 21 February 2023 for bail application. He has been accused of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Kimberley received a tip-off which led them to a property in Phutanang. Upon searching the property, the police found a 9mm Taurus pistol, three magazines and 49 different calibre ammunition. Kebotlhale was present at the time of the search and was taken into custody.
Captain Tebogo Thebe, a spokesperson for the Hawks, said: “The investigation is ongoing and we will be continuing to look into the matter.”
Kebotlhale appeared in court on 17 February 2023 and was remanded in custody. His bail application hearing is set for Tuesday, 21 February 2023.
The possession of unlicensed firearms is a serious crime and carries heavy penalties. It is important that members of the public are aware of the laws and regulations around firearms and ammunition, and that they do not get involved in any illegal activities.
