Editorial Staff

The South African Flamingo Research and Conservation Group (SAFRCG) is a dedicated initiative focused on ensuring the survival of the Lesser and Greater Flamingos in the region. Established by BirdLife South Africa, the group works to coordinate and implement research, monitoring and conservation initiatives that will help maintain the long-term survival of these beautiful birds.

The group primarily focuses on the Lesser Flamingo and its breeding site at Kamfers Dam in Kimberley, South Africa. The organization is donor funded and has received major donations from Ekapa Minerals, BirdLife South Africa and GaiaZoo. The group has also received generous contributions from members of the public.

The group also seeks to raise awareness and appreciation of flamingos in South Africa. The organization has an active Facebook Group that encourages people to share information on conservation actions taken or planned, send information on flamingo localities and breeding, and help increase knowledge of the birds.

The group’s mission is to ensure that flamingos are not only conserved but also appreciated. The group works to educate the public about the birds, their habitats and the threats they face. The group also works with local communities and businesses to ensure that flamingos and their habitats are protected.

We invite you to join us in the mission of protecting and promoting the conservation of the Lesser and Greater Flamingos in South Africa. Please consider donating to the South African Flamingo Research and Conservation Group to help us continue our work. Your support is greatly appreciated!
