RIVERTON – Johan Smit of the VF Plus has raised concerns about the current water situation in Kimberley. Smit explained that at Riverton, two out of the three pumps are currently in operation, meaning that the water supply is not running at full capacity. In Newton, only one pump is currently functioning, with the second pump set to be switched on once the dam level increases.
As a result, the water pressure in Kimberley is expected to range from weak to extremely weak. With only one pump operational, the city is receiving only half of its water supply capacity. Residents in higher-lying areas are experiencing almost no water, with hot water not flowing through geysers and washing machines unable to draw any water.
At present, the daily water shutdown from 20:00 to 04:00 is still in effect. However, there is hope that the authorities will grant permission for a slight extension of this schedule, allowing residents some relief.
The current water situation in Kimberley has been a cause for concern for some time, with interruptions in the water supply becoming a recurring issue. The limited functionality of the pumps has had a severe impact on the daily lives of residents, making it difficult to carry out basic tasks and maintain proper hygiene.
Johan Smit stressed the importance of addressing this issue urgently, as the limited water supply not only affects residents’ daily routines but also poses a threat to public health and hygiene. He called on the relevant authorities to take immediate action and find a solution that will ensure a consistent and reliable water supply for all residents in Kimberley.
It is hoped that the necessary steps will be taken to rectify the situation and provide a sustainable solution to the ongoing water interruptions. The residents of Kimberley deserve a reliable and consistent water supply, which is essential for their well-being and daily needs.
