Urgent Traffic Advisory: Hazardous Tree Branch Poses Threat on Edmeades Street to Jacobus Smit Avenue Bend

Michael Hawthorne

LABRAM – In a critical traffic alert for our Kimberley residents, a potentially life-threatening situation has been identified at the bend where Edmeades Street transforms into Jacobus Smit Avenue, just behind Choctaw Spur in Labram. A tree branch, hanging at windscreen height in the lane towards North Cape Mall, has emerged as a dangerous obstacle, particularly hazardous when navigating through oncoming traffic.

This precarious situation poses an imminent risk as there is minimal space for drivers to swerve out of harm’s way. Moreover, the unexpected presence of a stationary vehicle in this high-traffic area may lead to a ticking time bomb for a fatal traffic accident, especially under adverse conditions.

Expressing concern about the issue, it’s crucial to note that the trimming practices observed across the city, such as the recent trimming near Lenmed on Memorial Road, have raised eyebrows. Poor trimming methods not only jeopardize immediate safety but may contribute to problematic tree growth, exacerbating hazards throughout Kimberley.

In light of these concerns, we urgently implore the municipality to enhance the trimming skills of park workers. A proactive approach to tree maintenance is vital to ensure the safety of our roads and prevent potential accidents. Let’s unite as a community to address this pressing issue and create safer streets for all Kimberley residents. Stay informed, stay safe!

???? Approach with Caution! A looming hazard awaits on Edmeades Street’s bend. Share the road responsibly – steer clear of danger. Your safety matters! ????⚠️ #KimberleyRoadSafety #DriveSmart
