The Ward 25 councillor upon being alerted about the smoke and potential hazards, promptly contacted the Kimberley Fire Brigade, apprising them of the situation. Simultaneously, arrangements were made with the Sol Plaatje Municipality for the removal of the waste.

The affected stretch along Fabricia and Hercules Road has, unfortunately, become a prime target for illegal dumping, exacerbating the waste management crisis in the community. Residents were temporarily affected by the thick toxic smoke, prompting concerns about air quality and potential health risks. The swift action of the Kimberley Fire Brigade helped alleviate these concerns as they worked efficiently to suppress the fire and disperse the smoke.

In the aftermath of the incident, the community want stricter measures to be implemented to deter illegal dumping in the identified hotspots. Local authorities are being urged to collaborate with residents and businesses to address the root causes of this issue and implement sustainable solutions for waste management.

This recent event serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by Kimberley in maintaining a clean and safe environment.
