The Sol Plaatje Municipality (SPM) announced a planned water supply interruption from Thursday, April 4th, to Monday, April 8th, 2024. This five-day outage aims to address four major leaks and improve the overall water supply infrastructure.
The municipality emphasizes extensive communication efforts before, during, and after the interruption. Residents can expect detailed information on water contingency measures, healthcare facility plans, and updates through various channels.
Key reasons for the planned outage:
- Address water losses from four major leaks.
- End the need for nightly water interruptions.
- Repair a critical gasket at the Midstation (Roodepan) leak, which is at risk of bursting.
- Isolate pipelines to prevent future total outages.
- Begin critical maintenance funded by the National Treasury’s Budget Facility for Infrastructure (BFI).
Benefits of the planned outage:
- Improved water production by 16 megalitres through the recommissioning of clarifiers at the Riverton Water Treatment Plants.
- A future of uninterrupted and high-quality water supply for all residents.
The municipality encourages residents to store sufficient water ahead of the interruption.
