Michael Hawthorne

Dumping of animals on the rise in South Africa as a video shows a Pekingnese dumped by “heartless, backyard breeder” on Myngenoegen Road just outside Polokwane.

CCTV footage shows this took place at 11:12 on 18 March after which a concerned citizen uploaded it to social media. Just days before Hector’s incident. Read more about Justice for Hector.

In the video, a white Corsa bakkie can be seen turning off onto a gravel road off the R71 road. The revolting footage shows a male Pekingese being forced out of the vehicle. Driving off and leaving the dog behind. Heartbreakingly, the dog runs after its owners.

No good reason for dumping animals

Keshvi Nair spokesperson for the National Council of Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) says that every SPCA across the country is mandated to accept any unwanted or stray animals.

This includes domestic, farm and wild animal. Nair urges the public instead of cruelly dumping or abandoning animal to rather bring them to the SPCA.

A call for justice

Concerned citizens are furious and are calling for justice on social media.

According to The 9th Day, a non-profit company caring for animals, the authorities have been alerted. “We can only pray that justice will be served,” they say.
