UPDATED: Water Cut Off in Kimberley Affecting Herlear and Surrounding Areas

Editorial Staff

KIMBERLEY – Some residents of Kimberley, South Africa have been left frustrated and confused as to why their water supply has been cut off in certain areas.

Danielle Crafford from Belgravia asked on social media if anyone knew why the water was off in her area. Yolanda Bennett from Roodepan reported that her area was also affected.

Jonathan Dimond was able to shed some light on the situation. He reported that it was due to a burst pipe in Solomon Street. This is having a knock-on effect on Herlear and possibly surrounding areas as well.

The information was confirmed by the Sol Plaatje Municipality Call Centre at 18:40.

Residents are now left to try and make do with limited water, or look for alternative sources. Many are frustrated with the lack of communication from the municipality, with some calling for better communication and better management of the water supply.

It is yet to be seen how long the water will remain off for, but the municipality is working on resolving the issue as quickly as possible.

Sol Plaatje Municipality Media Statement

A massive burst pipe in Du Toitspan Road, opposite the Kimberley Hospital, is causing water disruptions in the city. The Sol Plaatje Municipality’s waterworks section is currently working to repair the pipe and in order to do so, the Newton Reservoir will have to be switched off.

Thoko Riet, the Sol Plaatje Municipality’s Spokesperson, said: “We are doing our best to repair the burst pipe as quickly as possible. In the meantime, residents that are directly fed from the Newton Reservoir will notice a drop in pressure or even no water coming from their taps.”

Once the pipe has been repaired, water will be restored to the affected areas. Until then, the Municipality is asking residents to be patient. They also encourage people to use water sparingly and to store water if they can.
