Following yesterday’s last-minute announcement by the Sol Plaatje Municipality on a water shutdown from 17:00 to 04:00 on Saturday, residents of Kimberley woke up to low water pressure this morning.
Chris Whittaker, the Democratic Alliance (DA) Councillor of Ward 24 of the Sol Plaatje Municipality, stated that according to the municipality, the water supply from the Newton Reservoir was restored at 05:00 this morning. However, due to the current water levels at the reservoir, only one pump is in use. This is causing the low water pressure experienced by residents.
The unexpected disruption in water supply has left many residents frustrated, particularly as the shutdown was announced with very short notice. Kimberley relies heavily on the Newton Reservoir as a crucial water source, and any disruption in supply significantly impacts daily life.
